Edward G. Escareno
Edward Gabriel Escareno of Eureka, died on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Via Christi Hospital, Saint Francis, in Wichita, at the age of 88.
He was born on March 18, 1927, in Pawhuska, Oklahoma to Juan and Inocencia (Elias) Escareno. He was raised in Oklahoma and Kansas. He attended Eureka High School. On November 26, 1952, he was united in marriage to Moetta Herren in Eureka. To this union, seven children were born. On September 25, 1982, he was united in marriage to Janice Eddings in Eureka.
He served in the Army during World War II from 1948 to 1951, and was stationed in Germany. He was an active member of VFW Post #2712 in Eureka. After his discharge, he returned to Eureka and began working for the Missouri Pacific Railroad, which later became the Union Pacific Railroad. He retired after 43 years. He also worked part time for Foodtown and Howard’s IGA grocery stores.
He is survived by his wife, Janice of the home; three daughters, Teresa Escareno of Eureka; Roberta and husband, Ron Hawthorne of Eureka; and Katherine Neel of Oxford, Ohio; three sons, John and wife, Marcia Escareno of Eureka; Tom Escareno of Eureka; and Richard and wife, Debra Escareno of Madison; four step-daughters, Tami Jackson; Amy and husband, Joe Brown; and Leann Eddings all of Eureka; and Brenda and husband, Jeff Stewart of Hamilton; thirteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; ten step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Philip Escareno of Wichita; and two sisters, Beatrice Valverde of Wichita; and Dolores Ball of Eureka. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lucy Lynn Escareno; five brothers; and two sisters.
Memorial services will be held at 2:30 P.M., Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eureka with Father Stephen Gronert officiating. Rosary recitation will begin at 2:00 P.M. Inurnment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or to the John Escareno Kidney Transplant Fund. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
