Edith Joan Hemingway, of Eureka, died on Monday, January 12, 2004, at Wesley Medical Center, in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 66.
She was born on June 13, 1937, in Blue Springs, Missouri, the daughter of Moree and Alice (Wilson) Offield. She graduated from Blue Springs High School and from the Kansas City Business College.
In 1965, she was united in marriage to Bernie Hemingway. The marriage later ended in divorce. The family made their home in several communities in Kansas, Missouri, Arizona, and California. Joan and her children settled in Eureka in 1978. She was active with volunteer work in the hospital, and was very active in the Christian & Congregational Church of Eureka, Kansas.
She is survived by one son, Bernie Hemingway and one daughter, Alice Martin both of Eureka, Kansas; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Lori, and one grandchild, Joanna.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., on Friday, January 16, 2004 at the Christian & Congregational Church in Eureka, Kansas with Pastor Fred Jordan officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial be made to the Christian & Congregational Church or the Greenwood County Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home at P.O. Box 595 Eureka, KS 67045.
