Edgar Elwood Griffith, of Eureka, died on June 29, 2005 at the Greenwood County Hospital, in Eureka, at the age of 69.
He was born on July 19, 1935, the son of James A. and Opal A. (Megli) Griffith. He was raised in the Neal area and attended Fancy, Tonovay, and Neal schools. After school, Edgar worked for Daniels Construction in Emporia before opening his own business, Griffith Dozer Service.
Edgar was united in marriage to Clara Hamilton, on May 8, 1981 in Eureka, where they made their home.
He is survived by his wife, Clara; six sons, Rick Griffith of Littleton, Colorado; Steve Griffith of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Ron Griffith of Littleton, Colorado; Kinney Griffith of Littleton, Colorado; Stan Griffith of Littleton, Colorado, and Dan Griffith of Vale, Colorado; daughter, Janice Griffith of Eureka; two step-sons, Gene Anderson of El Dorado; and Ivan Anderson of Burlington; four step-daughters, Mary Anderson of Pittsburg; Evelyn Maclaskey of Gridley; Judi Leason of Leon; and Kim Thompson of Shawnee; four grandsons; six granddaughters, three great-granddaughters; seven step-grandsons; eight step-granddaughters; five step-great-grandsons; and seven step-great-granddaughters; four brothers, James D. Griffith of Everette, Washington; Leo G. Griffith of Newton; Robert E. Griffith of Glendale, Arizona; and Richard L. Griffith of Topeka; and five sisters, Hazel Herold of Neal; Ruby Herman of New Jersey; Dorothy Gutman of Eureka; Sharon Beeman of Hamilton; and Mary Ann Thornton of Eureka.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M., Friday, July 1, 2005 at Greenwood Abbey in Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka with Mr. Jayme A. Koup officiating. Cremation has been effected. Inurnment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Edgar Griffith Memorial Fund. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
