Earl Dale Coon, of Eureka, died on Friday, April 1, 2005, at Medicalodge in Eureka, at the age of 88.

He was born on July 6, 1916, the son of Earl Ray and Emma Mae (Sallyards) Coon. He was raised in the Eureka area and attended Greenwood County rural schools, and worked for the City Drug Store. At the onset of war, he entered the United States Army and served his country with honor and dignity during World War II. After his discharge, he again worked at the City Drug Store and later he worked for Dow Chemical as a truck driver.

On April 12, 1940, Dale was united in marriage to Betty Loraine Bales. The family made their home in Eureka. Dale was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka, and VFW Post #2712.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; one son, Michael Ray and wife, Ann Coon of Eureka; two daughters, Karen Martin of Hutchinson, and Linda Sue and husband Darby Downard of Eureka; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Dorothy Criss of Eureka; and Mary and husband Dayrel Bane of Eureka. Dale was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at Koup Family Funeral Home, Eureka with Chaplain Andy Torres of Hospice Care of Kansas officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will greet friends and visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Monday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice Care of Kansas or Medicalodge of Eureka. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
