Dwight Howard Handley Sr., of Wichita, died at his home on March 6, 2008, at the age of 84.

He was born in Cambridge, Kansas on April 17, 1923, the son of John and Katharine (Copple) Handley. He was raised in Eureka, and graduated from Eureka High School. After his schooling, he was united in marriage to Betty Martin in Eureka. He then entered the United States Army and served his country with honor and dignity during World War II. Upon his discharge he attended Coenhn Electric School in Chicago, and trained in the field of refrigeration. After graduation, the family moved to Hutchinson where Dwight and his brother worked in the heating and cooling industry. The family then moved to Wichita where he not only worked with refrigeration but also repaired appliances. He finished his working years as a service man in the natural gas industry.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home; two sons, Dwight H. “Pete” Jr., and wife, Mary Handley of Belle Plaine; and Darrell and wife, Diane Handley of Wichita; one daughter, Patricia and husband, David Wright of Lexington, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Karen Wiggins; one brother; and one sister.

Private family services were held on Monday, March 10, 2008.

A memorial has been established in his name to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
