Douglas “Doug” Doeden of Eureka, died on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at Galichia Heart Hospital, in Wichita, at the age of 80.
He was born on February 2, 1931, in Monroe, South Dakota, the son of Henry and Angel Ida (Witkop) Doeden. He was raised in Monroe and graduated from Monroe High School with the class of 1948. After his schooling, he served in the United States Army for two years including time in Europe.
On June 12, 1955, Doug was united in marriage to Marcia Sullivan in Chamberlain, South Dakota. He worked for Russell & Sons Construction in Missouri, Oklahoma, and Kansas. Later he worked for P & M Coal in Missouri and New Mexico before retiring in Gallup in 1995, at which time he returned to Eureka.
Doug is survived by his wife, Marcia of the home; two children, Constance Mitchell of Eureka; and Klaas Doeden of Kansas City, Missouri; one sister, Lois Savage of La Mesa, California; and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church of Eureka with Reverend Kenneth Baker officiating. A private family inurnment will follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Eureka. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
