Dortha Pauline Dodd, 89, died May 25, 2004, at the Heartland Manor Care of Willowbrook, in Houston, Texas.
She was born January 7, 1915 at Cherryvale, Kansas the daughter of Rena Dortha (McMahill) and Fred Alexander Hurd. She was reared in the Independence, Kansas community, graduating from High School class of 1932 and Independence Community College in 1934. She was a social worker.
August 31, 1935 she was united in marriage to Richard Lee Dodd. They attended college at Emporia, Kansas one year and moved to Kiowa, Kansas in August 1936. In July 1945, they moved to Eureka, Kansas where her husband was a principal with the Eureka school system.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka and had served as President of the United Methodist Women’s group. She belonged to federal and state organizations for social workers during her employment years. She was also a member of the Sorosis Study club of which she was president three years, and a member of a sewing club and knitting club.
She is survived by one daughter, Dortha Ann Roberts, and husband Edward J Roberts of Houston, Texas; two grandsons Ryan Dodd Roberts, and Michael Edward Roberts of Dallas, Texas; one sister Fredda Weddle and her husband V.G. Weddle of Wichita, Kansas; two nephews, Ron and Gary Weddle; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Lee Dodd and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, May 28, 2004 at Koup Family Funeral Home, Eureka, with Reverend Diana Hill of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
