Dorothy Bernice Pearse, of Eureka, died on Monday, February 14, 2005 at Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center, in El Dorado, at the age of 89.

She was born on July 5, 1915, in Eureka, the daughter of Brook and Minnie (Souders) Lewis. She was raised in Eureka and attended Eureka High School. On March 5, 1935, Dorothy was united in marriage to Homer A. Pearse, in Eureka, where the family made their home. In addition to being a homemaker, Dorothy also worked for Safeway in the meat department between the years of 1959 and 1971 when she retired. Homer preceded her in death on August 9, 1959.

She attended the Christian & Congregational Church and was a member of the VFW Post #2712 Auxiliary.

She is survived by a son, Richard of Eureka; daughter, Beverley A. Swaim of Fayetteville, Arkansas; one brother, Bobby “Jack” Lewis, of Eureka; and one sister, Treva Cypert of El Dorado. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, seven brothers, and five sisters.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, February 17, 2005 at Greenwood Cemetery with Mr. Jayme A. Koup officiating. Visitation hours will be from 6 – 8 P.M., Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to VFW Post #2712 Auxiliary, Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, or the Eureka Carnegie Library Building Fund. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
