Dorothy Louise Lillie, of Augusta, former Eureka resident, died at St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita, on Sunday, January 16, 2005, at the age of 88.
She was born in Eureka on October 16, 1916, the daughter of William and Stella (Lloyd) Swim. Dorothy was raised in Eureka and graduated from Eureka High School.
On October 24, 1937, she was united in marriage to Charlie Lillie in El Dorado. They made their home in Reece where Dorothy worked in the grocery store. During World War II, while Charlie was serving his country, she worked in El Dorado at Woolworth’s. The family moved to Eureka in 1957. Dorothy was a homemaker and worked part-time at Ben Franklin’s 5 & 10, Bi-Rite, and LeVieux’s. In 1987, she and Charlie moved to Andover. Charlie preceded her in death on June 3, 1991. In 1993, she moved to Augusta.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Jim Owings of Towanda, one granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Tammy and Ben Nolan of Wichita, three great-grandchildren, and one sister, Gladys Rishel of Arvada, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandson, James Allen Owings, and one brother.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 19, 2005, at Koup Family Funeral Home, with Pastor Alan Hunter of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
