Dorothy May Dorsett, of El Dorado, died on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita, at the age of 88.
She was born on February 9, 1921, in Piedmont, the daughter of Oscar Loraine and Martha Myrtle (Powers) Smith. She was raised in Piedmont, and attended Piedmont Grade School. On May 23, 1939, Dorothy was united in marriage to John Ezra Dorsett, Jr. in Iola. They made their home in Eureka until 1945 when they moved to Rosalia where John ranched.
In 1954, John began working for the Wichita Public School system and the family moved to Wichita. Dorothy worked for Cessna during this time for 22 years. In 1977, they retired to Shell Knob, Missouri and lived at Table Rock Lake, where they remained until 1992 when for health reasons they moved to El Dorado. John preceded her in death on May 28, 1993.
Dorothy is survived by two sons, Richard Wayne Dorsett of Beaumont; and John Ezra Dorsett, III of Newton; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lavina Hopper of Augusta. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, Jr.; one son, Clarence; and one grandchild, Michael.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday, December 28, 2009 at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka with Pastor Maureen Howard of the Christ Lutheran Church of Eureka officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Sedgwick Senior Center Building Fund. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
