Dorothy “Lorene” Boone, of Eureka, died on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at Greenwood County Hospital, in Eureka, at the age of 84.
She was born on December 1, 1923, in Barnsdall, Oklahoma, the daughter of Thomas and Pearl Mae (Cook) Lawrence. She spent her early years in Oklahoma before the family moved to Severy during Lorene’s teenage years. She graduated from Severy High School. After her schooling, Lorene was united in marriage to Kenneth Clyde Boone in January 17, 1940. They made their home in rural Neal where Lorene was a homemaker.
Later the family moved into Neal. Kenneth preceded her in death on July 21, 1981. Lorene later moved to Eureka.
Lorene was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness.
She is survived by three sons, Clyde Boone of Toronto; Tom Boone of Eureka; and Jim Boone of Eureka; three daughters, Sue McDonald of Eureka; Patty Thornton of Eureka; and Ronda Stapleford of Fall River; fourteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Jack Kellogg of Joplin, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka, with Mr. David Vogt officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
