Dorothy Mae Black, age 90, passed away at the Eureka Nursing Center in Eureka, Kansas, Sunday, June 23, 2019.
“Dot” who was the daughter of the late John and Ethel Black of Reece, had made her home in Lakewood, Colorado for more than 40 years before returning to the home place in Reece due to declining health. Dorothy was a long-time member of Phillips United Methodist Church in Lakewood.
She was also predeceased by her brother Harold Black of Eureka, her sister Virginia Stanfield of Reece and her sister Mary Symcox of Phoenix. She is survived by 8 nieces and nephews, their spouses, children and grandchildren, and many friends who will miss her dearly.
Dorothy was a graduate of Eureka High School and Kansas University. Her working life was primarily in the banking industry. She was an early employee of the Women’s Bank of Denver, Colorado – an institution founded in the middle 1970s to enable women to get credit in their own name, when at that time credit was usually only available with their husband’s signatures. She retired as a bank auditor in the mid-1990’s.
Arrangements were handled by Koup Family Funeral Home of Eureka.
Private memorial services will be held at a future date, followed by inurnment at the Reece cemetery.
