Doris Dee Thornton, of Eureka, died at the Greenwood County Hospital on Tuesday, August 3, 2004, at the age of 77.
She was born on September 15, 1926, in Eureka, the daughter of Ernest and Leilia (Jones) Lozier. Doris was raised in the Eureka area and attended Greenwood County rural schools and graduated from Eureka High School.
After her schooling she worked at the Basham Hospital for a short time. On August 1, 1945, she was united in marriage to Delbert Thornton in Eureka. They made their home in Eureka where Doris was a homemaker. Delbert preceded her in death on July 2, 1984.
She is survived by three sons, David Thornton, Donald Thornton, and Kenneth Thornton; one daughter, Joyce Pearse all of Eureka; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one brother, Robert Lozier of Eureka. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, Edwin and Mark, and two sisters.
Graveside services and interment will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, August 5, 2004, in Greenwood Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in her name to the American Heart Association. Contributions may be sent in care of the Koup Family Funeral Home which was in charge of service arrangements.
