Doris “Carolyn” (Rabon) Purkeypile, formerly of Eureka, died on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at Plaza West Health Center in Topeka, at the age of 87.

She was born on April 23, 1926, in Lugoff, South Carolina, the daughter of Ben Tillman and Maude (Henson) Rabon. She was raised in Lugoff and graduated from Camden High School.
Carolyn met her husband and love of her life, Dale Purkeypile while he was serving in the Army while stationed at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. They were united in marriage on August 17, 1944, in Camden, South Carolina. Following Dale’s Army service they moved to Kansas to start farming. Carolyn worked for Citizen’s National Bank (Emprise Bank, today) for 34 years. During her career at the bank, she developed many wonderful lifelong relationships with co-workers and her customers.

Carolyn and Dale were active members of the Kansas and National Gelbvieh Associations. Their active participation gave them many experiences in their travels. She was preceded her in death by Dale on June 29, 2006, and by her seven brothers and sisters.

She is survived by daughter, Rita and husband, Mike Harding of Topeka; son, Dale, Jr. and wife, Mary Purkeypile of Savoy, Illinois; four grandchildren: Shawn and wife, Claire Harding of Eudora; Brett and wife, Marta Harding of Topeka; Amanda Mancke of Oswego, Illinois; and Nicole Purkeypile of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and five great-grandsons.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Koup Family Funeral Home in Eureka, with Pastor Stan Seymour of the First Christian Church of El Dorado officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Eureka. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
