Donald Lowell Stice of Eureka, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2014 at Galichia Heart Hospital in Wichita, at the age of 86.

Don was born on December 15, 1927 in Rose Hill, Kansas to Harrison Newton and Stella Emma (Wells) Stice. He was raised in the Rose Hill area where he attended local schools and graduated from Douglas High School with the class of 1945. Upon graduation, Don moved to Missouri enlisted in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Alaska and the Aleutian Islands. After being honorably discharged from the Army on September 17, 1947, Don returned to Missouri to work in the logging industry.

In 1951, Don moved to Eureka, Kansas and began working in the Parts Department of several GM dealers including Brenton Motors, Eureka Motors, and finally Downings, Inc., where he worked full time for 20 years until his retirement in 1993. After his retirement, he continued to work part-time for Downings, Inc. where he delivered vehicles across the country.

On August 6, 1978, Don was united in marriage to Letha Marjorie (Starkey) Powell in Eureka. She preceded him in death on August 26, 2008. In 1987, Don began his service to the Lord as Pastor of the First Church of God in Eureka. Don was active in the Eureka community as a member of the Eureka area Ministerial Alliance, the Christian Motorcyclists Association, and a faithful parishioner of the First United Methodist Church, First United Methodist Men’s Breakfast Group, and Mended Heart Ministries. Don also enjoyed visiting with his friends at the Senior Center and his early morning coffee group.

He is survived by two step-sons, S. David Powell of Kansas City; and Michael Powell of Nowata, Oklahoma; one step-daughter, Sherrill Powell of Fall River; and numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Eureka with Rev. Kenneth Baker officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday, at Koup Family Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church or Mended Heart Ministries. Contributions may be sent of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
