Donald Ivan Spence, of Wichita, died on Thursday, January 1, 2004, at Via-Christi St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Wichita, at the age of 84.

He was born on May 18, 1919, in Greenleaf, Kansas, the son of Charlie M. and Mary (Hennessey) Spence. He was raised in Greenleaf and attended area schools. After his schooling, he entered the United States Army and served his country with honor and dignity during World War II. Upon his discharge, he farmed and performed odd jobs around Greenleaf. On September 3, 1952, Donald was united in marriage to Louise Fristoe in Marysville, Kansas. The family made their home in Wichita, where they operated a restaurant and bowling alley. Donald retired and the family moved to Toronto in the early 1960s. Louise preceded him in death on May 31, 1982. Donald later moved back to Wichita in the mid-1980s.

He is survived by his sister, Alice M. Werner of Derby, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, and two sisters.

Graveside services and interment will be held at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 6, 2004, at Toronto Cemetery with Pastor Alan Hunter of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church officiating.

Koup Family Funeral Home of Eureka was in charge of service arrangements.
