Donald “Beaner” Schlotterbeck
Donald Rexford Schlotterbeck of Hamilton, died on May 23, 2013 at his residence in Hamilton at the age of 70.
Beaner was born on September 6, 1942 the son of Ira and Irene (Sherman) Schlotterbeck. Donald was raised in Greenwood County and attended local schools graduating in 1960. He then went to work in the oil fields before joining the Air Force. After the Air Force he went to Tulsa going to Spartan Technical School. He then returned to Eureka working as a driller on an oil rig. Beaner then went to work for Didde Graphics in Emporia as a machinist. In 1982 he and his family opened a machine shop in Hamilton where he worked until his health declined. He was Mayor of Hamilton for 12 years and served as a council member for 8. On June 25, 1971 he was united in marriage to Barbara Sloan in Emporia, Kansas.
He is survived by his wife Barbie of the home; daughter Tammy Grotheer and husband Jason of Pittsburg, Kansas; son, Michael Schlotterbeck of Queens, New York; grandchildren, Indiana and Savannah Grotheer; brothers Larry “Jake” Schlotterbeck of Hamilton and Howard Schlotterbeck of Eureka; and sister, Neva Linden of Braman, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Janesville Cemetery in Hamilton with Pastor Mark Demas officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Hamilton Senior Center Building Fund or the Hamilton High School Scholarship Fund and left in care of the funeral home.
