Donald Lee Hare, of Eureka, died on August 17, 2004, at Medicalodge of Eureka, at the age of 73.
He was born on June 21, 1931 in Neodesha, Kansas, the son of Thomas and Gladys (Duft) Hare. He was raised in Neodesha and graduated from Neodesha High School. After graduation, Donald worked for Archer-Daniels Landscaping Company and the Houston-Dye Lumber Company. He entered the United States Army in 1952, and served his country with dignity and honor during the Korean Conflict.
In 1952, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Crabtree in Hamilton, Kansas. They made their home in Madison before moving to Nebraska, back to Neodesha and finally, Eureka. After returning from the Army, Donald worked at Imco Manufacturing as a welder for 14 years. He later went to work for Sheehan Lease and worked as an oil pumper for 21 years before retiring. During retirement Donald worked part-time for Alco.
Donald was a member of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church and the American Legion Post #325 of Toronto.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis; five sons, Thomas M. Hare of Eureka, Ronald L. Hare of Chanute, Donald E. Hare of Olathe, Jeffrey L. Hare of Eureka, and James A. Hare of Eureka; sixteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen P. Johnson of Cherryvale. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, August 23, 2004, at Toronto Cemetery in Toronto, Kansas. The family will greet friends on Sunday, August 22, 2004, from 6 to 8 P.M. at Koup Family Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established in his name to Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home P.O. Box 595, Eureka, Kansas 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
