Delyte Irene Ashlock, formerly of Neal, Kansas died on Thursday, February 24, 2011, at Life Care Center of Andover, Kansas at the age of 94.

She was born on July 2, 1916, in Altoona, the daughter of Silas and Estella (Goetze) Franks. She was raised north of New Albany, attending Wilson County rural schools and graduating from Coyville with the class of 1934. On June 3, 1937, Delyte was united in marriage to Marion William Ashlock in Howard. They made their home in rural Greenwood County.

In the mid 1940’s the family moved to Neal. Delyte cooked for the Neal school and later operated the Neal Post Office beginning in 1965. She retired in 1983. Marion preceded her in death on March 31, 1992. Delyte moved to Eureka in 1994.

Delyte was a member of the Greenwood County Hospital Auxiliary and the Neal Evangelical Free Church.

She is survived by two sons, Gayle D. Ashlock of Sycamore, and Otis R. Ashlock of Neal; three daughters, Mariam “Jo” Jackson of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Nellene Sandburg of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Myonne Borst of Pratt; nine grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, February 28, 2011, at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka with Pastor Larry Evans of the Neal Evangelical Free Church officiating. Interment will follow at Neal Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Neal Evangelical Free Church or to Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
