Dayrel Wendell Bane, formerly of Eureka, died on Friday, October 13, 2023, at Bethany Home, in Lindsborg, at the age of 97.

He was born on February 4, 1926, in Greenwood County, the son of Frank Henry and Jane May (Jones) Bane. He was raised in Greenwood County attending rural schools. He played baseball for Tonovay where he was known as Pete. He later moved to Rolla, Kansas where he graduated high school. At Rolla he played basketball. He later returned to Greenwood County where he farmed and ranched.

On July 4, 1949, Dayrel was united in marriage to Mary Louise Coon in Eureka. They made their home in Eureka. To this union, two daughters were born. Mary preceded him in death on October 11, 2011.

Dayrel loved his cattle, but farming was his life. He loved to hunt and fish as well. He was a frequent patron of Benny’s Westside, both the original station and the Benny’s of today. He could often be found there in the evenings where the girls looked after him.

Dayrel is survived by his daughters, Teresa and husband, Alan McCoy of Oakley; Shirley and husband, Lee James of McPherson; two grandchildren: Amy McCoy Ricker and husband, Tate, and Joshua James; and four great-grandchildren: Wyatt Ricker, Waylon Ricker, William Herrera-Kendell, and Kiyanna James. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and all nine siblings: Denzel Bell Buffalow, John Henry Bane, Kenneth Jay Bane, Viola Agnes Chancellor, Jesse Willard Bane, Ellen Irene Massey, Gilbert Raymond Bane, Sylvester Glen Bane, and Helen Louise Bane.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka with Rev. Melissa Newberry of the Grandview Baptist Church of Kansas City officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka. Visitation hours are set from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Monday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Scott County 4-H Shooting Sports or to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
