David Earl Mock, of Eureka, died at the Greenwood County Hospital on Thursday, July 7, 2005, at the age of 78.
He was born in Hamilton, Kansas on December 31, 1926, the son of William Edward and Clara Leota (Jacobs) Mock. David was raised in Hamilton and graduated from Hamilton High School with the class of 1944. He then enlisted in the Army National Guard and was called to active duty on January 16, 1945. He was discharged from active service in 1946, and served another 18 ½ years in the National Guard.
On May 26, 1950, David was united in marriage to Beverly Lyons in Eureka. They have made their home here ever since.
David was a lineman for Kansas Power and Light for 42 years, retiring on January 26, 1990. He worked with the Flinthills Girl Scouts and was a member of VFW Post #2712 of Eureka, the Eureka Shriners Club, Greenwood/Elk County 3 Wheelers, Masonic Lodge, and the Eureka Fire Department for which he recently received recognition for 50 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly of the home, son Donnie Mock of Emporia, daughter Linda Thompson of Haysville, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, brother, John Mock of Eureka, sisters, Maedellee Scott of Turon, Kansas, and Wilma Geise of Wichita. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, July 11, 2005, at the Koup Family Funeral Home with Reverend Diana Hill of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made in his name to the Greenwood County Rural Fire Department. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
