Darrel Wytte Shaw, of Eureka, died on Monday, November 24, 2008 at Galichia Heart Hospital, in Wichita, at the age of 70.
He was born on August 29, 1938, in Eureka, the son of Harrel and Elizabeth (Williams) Shaw. He was raised in Eureka, and graduated from Eureka High School. After his schooling, Darrel worked for the State of Kansas as a surveyor. In 1963, Darrel went to work as a machinist in California. In 1969, the family returned to Eureka. Darrel worked at that time for Lew Marshall, until his health forced him to retire.
On December 27, 1958, Darrel was united in marriage to Sharon Hamilton in Eureka, where they made their home.
Darrel was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church and was also very active with the Greenwood County Historical Society.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; one daughter, Kelley Jones of Eureka; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four brothers, David Shaw of Nenana, Alaska; Curtis Shaw of Eureka; Paul Shaw of Valley Center; and Alan Shaw of Nenana, Alaska; and three sisters, Rosalie Clites of El Dorado; Patricia Shaw of Iowa; and Marcia Dahlman of Tecumseh.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Kimberly Valentine; one grandson, Anthony Valentine; and one sister, Beth Wharny.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at Christ Lutheran Church in Eureka with Pastor Maureen Howard officiating. Cremation will be effected.
The family has requested no flowers. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Upper Fall River Lutheran Church or the Greenwood County Historical Society. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
