Clyde Donald Smith of Toronto, died on Sunday, June 19, 2011 at Via Christi - St. Francis Regional Medical in Wichita at the age of 89.
He was born on February 3, 1922 in El Dorado, the son of Clyde Homer and Georgia Mae (Copeland) Smith. Clyde was raised in El Dorado and graduated from local schools. After graduation he worked at Beech Aircraft before joining the Marine Corp during WWII. He served in Iwo Jima serving his country with honor and dignity. After the war he became a pipe-fitter welder with Local 171 and worked at various companies around Wichita.
On April 25, 1947 he was united in marriage to Erma Jean Cook in Iola.
He was a member of the Good News Baptist Church in Toronto where he was a Deacon. He was a member of the American Legion of Toronto, the VFW and Disabled American Veterans association.
He is survived by his wife, Erma of the home; children, Lonnie Gene Smith of Cedar Point, Clyde John Smith and Tommy Joe Smith of Toronto, and Jackie Smith of Coyville; seventeen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; nineteen great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, James R. Smith of Burns, and Frankie R. Smith of El Dorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, children, Don Lee Smith, Floyd H. Smith and Penny Sue Ann Smith and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, June 24, 2011 at Koup Family Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Toronto Cemetery. Visitation hours will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Thursday, at the funeral home.
