Clayton Sherwood Rockhill of Eureka, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at his home in Eureka, at the age of 80.
He was born on May 15, 1931, in Eureka, the son of Ira and Margaret (Nelson) Rockhill. He was raised in Eureka, and graduated from Eureka High School. After his schooling, he worked the rodeo circuit as well as working for sale barns. In November of 1952, Clayton was united in marriage to Laverne Pound. They later divorced.
Clayton raised and sold cattle on his own as well as farming. He later worked in western Kansas for Farmland, IBP, and different feed lots, and packing plants. In May of 1970, Clayton was united in marriage to Shirley Thackeray. They made their home in Great Bend and Garden City before returning to Eureka.
He was a member of the Christian Lutheran Church.
He is survived by son, David Rockhill of Nixa, Missouri; son, Vince Rockhill of Marietta, Georgia; son, Lyle Rockhill of Hutchinson; step-son, Ed Mayer of Arkansas City; daughter, Maretta Huntington of Emporia; and step-daughter, Jari Jo Williams of Gold Beach, Oregon; grandchildren, Tara, Stephanie, Erik, Amber, Jennifer, J.J., Katrina, Curtis, Kasey, Joshua, Carrie, Jason, Kyle, Sybil, Kari, Ryann, Carson, and Noah; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Dolores Borst of Eureka; and one sister-in-law, June Addison of Eureka. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Shirley, one brother, and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, June 17, 2011 at Koup Family Funeral Home with Pastor Maureen Howard of Christ Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Greenwood County Home Health. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
