Claud C. Markley, of Eureka, died on Wednesday, November 19, 2008, at Greenwood County Hospital, in Eureka, at the age of 88.
He was born on April 18, 1920, in Potwin, the son of William and Minnie Myrtle (Potter) Markley. He was raised in Potwin and attended local schools, graduating from Potwin High School with the class of 1938. During World War II, Claud worked at Beech Aircraft in Wichita. Later he worked in the oil fields.
On January 12, 1947, Claud was united in marriage to Frances M. Foster. They made their home in El Dorado. In 1952, the family moved to Pawhuska, Oklahoma; Sedan, Kansas in 1953; and Eureka in 1956. Frances preceded him in death on November 2, 2004.
He is survived by one son, Larry Markley of Eureka Springs, Arkansas; one daughter, Pamela Metzer of Pomona, California; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother, and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka with Reverend Diana Hill of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Lawns Cemetery in El Dorado.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Eureka Senior Center. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
