Clarence William “Kink” Burch, of Eureka, died on July 12, 2005, at Greenwood County Hospital, in Eureka, at the age of 82.
He was born on November 12, 1922, in Eureka, the son of James and Lula (Rohland) Burch. He was raised in Eureka, and attended local schools. At the onset of World War II, Kink enlisted in the United States Navy, serving his country with honor and dignity in the Asiatic Pacific theater. After his discharge, he attended Pittsburg State University. On June 26, 1942, Kink was united in marriage to Doris Ward, in Eureka. In the mid 1940’s, he began working for Dowell Corporation as an oil well acidizer in Eureka. In the early 1970’s he was transferred to Hominy, Oklahoma. In the late 1980’s, Kink retired and he and Doris returned to Eureka.
He was a member of VFW Post #2712.
Kink is survived by his wife, Doris of the home; one son, Layman Burch of Flagstaff, Arizona; two daughters, Mindy Sadowski of Emporia; and Marta Harriger; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, July 16, 2005, at Koup Family Funeral Home, with Pastor Chester Morris of the Church of the New Covenant of Emporia officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
