Clarence Arthur Biggs, of Wichita, formerly of Eureka, died on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Sterling House of Tallgrass in Wichita, at the age of 93.
He was born on August 8, 1918, in Greenwood County, the son of Clarence Arthur, Sr., and Carolyn Rose “Carrie” (Chambers) Biggs. He was raised in Eureka and attended local schools. In 1943, Art joined the United States Coast Guard. On October 4, 1970, Art was united in marriage to June Sutherland in Wichita.
Art worked for the Safeway in Eureka and worked up to manager. In 1946 he was promoted to manager of several Safeway bakeries including Eureka, Newton, Augusta, and Wichita, where he remained until his retirement in 1983. June preceded him death on October 31, 1977.
He was a member of the Woodland Southern Baptist Church of Wichita. He loved gardening and baking.
He is survived by his son, Dennis and wife, Cindy Biggs of Bel Aire; daughter-in-law, Sandy; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and his primary care-giver, niece, Joyce Hillman. He was preceded in death by his wife, June; son, Norman; and three sisters, Leta Hillman, Elsie Hillman, and Evelyn Stockwell.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Greenwood Cemetery in Eureka with Pastor Gary Boles of the Moline Community Fellowship officiating.
