Christine Olive Schlotterbeck, a resident of Kansas for 84 years, died on February 8, 2009, in Phoenix, Arizona, at the age of 87.

She was born on June 9, 1921, in Wichita, Kansas to Halsey H, Sr. and Isabelle Cook. Christine was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Bernadine; and two brothers, Halsey H, Jr., and James Martin.

She moved to Arizona in 2005. Her “heart” remained in the flint hills of Kansas.

Christine was married to Theodore John Schlotterbeck of Neal, Kansas on January 1, 1956, who predeceased her. She is survived by her two sons Delbert James (Alberta) Stapleford of Albany, Georgia, and Steven John Schlotterbeck of Hartford, Kansas; one daughter Janet (Jay) Cowan of Phoenix, Arizona; 4 grandchildren, Kevin Stapleford, Rebecca Washington, Paula Dumas and Christopher Cowan; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Christine was in nursing for over 25 years and was one of the first generation of Home Health nurses.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, February 13, 2009 at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka with Pastor Delbert James Stapleford officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Kansas Special Olympics or the charity of your choice. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
