Charles F. Benton of Emporia, formerly of Eureka, died on Friday, April 11, 2008 at Newman Regional Health Hospital in Emporia at the age of 85.

He was born on August 23, 1922 the son of Charles W. and Stella (Barnard) Benton. Floyd was raised in Eureka and attended local schools. After his schooling he worked as an auto body repairman. In 1942 he entered into the United States Army during WWII serving his country with honor and dignity. After the war he returned doing auto body repair work before retiring in the mid 1990’s.

He was a member of the Baptist Church and the VFW.

He is survived by his sons, Larry Benton of Deer Lodge, Tn., Darrell Benton of St. Louis, Mo. and Mike Benton of Bridgeville, Pa.; daughter, Sue Richardson of Sterling, Kansas; sixteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and sister, Gladys O’Connell of El Dorado, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and one sister.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday, April 14, 2008 at Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka, Kansas, with Pastor Alan Hunter officiating.
