Cecil Owen Titus, of Virgil, Kansas, died on August 12, 2005, at Life Care Center of Burlington in Burlington, Kansas at the age of 74.
He was born on April 3, 1931, in Conway, Kansas, the son of Durward L. and Veda (Folck) Titus. He was raised in Conway, and graduated from high school in Little River, Kansas. After his schooling, he enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and served his country with honor and dignity. He moved to Virgil in 1954, and became the owner of Titus Well Service. In the mid-1990’s he retired from the business.
On December 14, 1957, he was united in marriage to Betty Smith in Miami, Oklahoma. They made their home in Virgil, where they raised their family.
Cecil was a member of the VFW Post #2712 of Eureka, and the American Legion in Toronto.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; three sons, Steven Titus of Red Oak, Texas; Pete Titus of Virgil, Kansas; and Rick Titus of Princeton, Kansas; two daughters, Debbie Johnson of Madison, Kansas; and Sandy Ashlock of Virgil, Kansas; eleven grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; one brother, Alfred Titus of Cottonwood Falls, Kansas; and two sisters, Maxine Phillips of Galva, Kansas; and Patty McDonald of Arkansas City, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, August 15, 2005, at the Virgil United Methodist Church with Pastor Mark Demas officiating. Visitation will be from 2-4 P.M. on Sunday, August 14, 2005, at Koup Family Funeral Home, Eureka, Kansas.
