Catherine M. Truskett of Canton, Georgia, formerly of Hesston and Eureka, Kansas, died on January 30, 2020 in Canton at the age of 97.
She was born October 31, 1922 near Climax, Kansas, the daughter of Robert and Edna (Moss) Essick. She was raised in the Climax community and graduated from Climax High School in the class of 1939. She attended Emporia State Teachers College at Emporia and received a teaching certificate and taught in rural schools. On November 6, 1941, Catherine was united in marriage to Glen E. Truskett. Two children, Janet Jo and Vance Allen, were born to this union. They lived on a farm south of Eureka until 1960 when they established Truskett Equipment. She was preceded in death by her husband on January 4, 1988.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Eureka for many years where she was an active member of United Methodist Women. She also belonged to the Mother’s Guidance Club, Altrurian Guild, Extension Club, and was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Hesston United Methodist Church at the time of her passing.
She is survived by daughter, Janet and husband, Chick Moss of Canton, Georgia; son, Vance and wife, Joyce Truskett of Garfield, Arkansas; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Robert Elmer Essick.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Friday, February 7, 2020 at Greenwood Cemetery in Eureka. In lieu of flowers, the Truskett family requests donations be made to the First United Methodist Church of Eureka. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O.
