Carolyn “Sue” Butter, of Eureka, died on Friday, September 5, 2008, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center at Via Christi - St Francis Regional Medical Center, in Wichita, at the age of 71.
She was born on October 1, 1936, in Dewey, Oklahoma, the daughter of James Edgar and Ruth Irene (Trowbridge) O’Neal. She was raised in the Dewey area until the family moved to Fredonia, and later Teterville, with her father’s job. Sue attended Eureka area schools. Over the years, Sue worked and lived in many different areas but mainly in the Eureka area.
She was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church.
Sue is survived by four sons, Randy Scates of Galveston, Texas; John Scates of Eureka; Carl Scates of Valley Center; and Junior Scates of Wichita; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Lou Anna May of Dewey, Oklahoma; and Jeanette Brown of Conway, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, one infant brother, and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, September 12, 2008 at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka, with Pastor Maureen Howard of Christ Lutheran Church officiating. Interment services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, September 12, 2008 at Dewey Cemetery, in Dewey, Oklahoma. A visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, at the funeral home.
