Carl V. Owen, Jr.
Carl Victor Owen, Jr., of Hamilton, died on Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Via Christi – Saint Francis Hospital, in Wichita, at the age of 77.
He was born on August 9, 1937, in Hamilton, the son of Carl V., Sr. and Minnie E. (Buffington) Owen. He was raised in Hamilton and graduated local schools. He worked as a farm hand for a year before moving to New Mexico. He worked for Farmer's Electric, and Rural Electric Association as a lineman. After he moved to El Dorado he worked at White & Ellis Drilling Company, and later Donald Dunce Salvage.
On June 9, 1960, Carl was united to Eloise A. Shepard in El Dorado. Later the family moved to Clay Center and Carl worked road construction. He moved to Belleville and worked for North Central Kansas REA. In 1964, he began farming and worked for Lewis Long Drilling. In 1972, he began working for KDOT and Bud Shepherd Oil Service before finally opening Owen Tank & Vacuum Service. He retired in 1999.
He was a member of the Hamilton United Methodist Church and the Masons.
He is survived by his wife, Eloise of the home; two children, son, Matthew Owen of Hamilton; and daughter, Carol Elise Harris of Independence; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Lloyd Owen of Park City. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Kara Lee Owen; four sisters; and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, July 24, 2015 at Koup Family Funeral Home with Pastor Warren Olson of the Hamilton United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Janesville Cemetery. Viewing hours are set from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Hamilton Community Center. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which is in charge of service arrangements.
