Carl W. Haney, 93, passed away peacefully at home in Eureka, KS, on Friday morning, August 7, 2009.

Carl was born July 16, 1916, on a ranch near Neal, KS. to John W. and Ona Mae (Shaw) Haney. He had three brothers and two sisters. He lived his early years around the Greenwood Coounty, Kansas area, graduating with honors from the 8th grade. He then helped his father, whose occupation was a sharecropper, and he later left home to work for the railroad for a short while.

He married Imogene Johnson in September, 1937 and they had seven children together. He supported his family by working on the Seward farm, for Bush Motor Co. as a shop foreman and Sauder Tank Co. and Miller Bros. as a welder.

He married his second wife, Margaret H. Gamer in August, 1956, and they raised her two daughters, whom he adopted. He continued his career as a welder going to work for Clarkson Construction Co. on the Tuttle Creek Dam project in Manhattan, Ks, and various other jobsites, eventually moving to their headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri and living in Blue Springs, before retiring from Clarkson Construction in 1987 as shop foreman and moving to Eureka, Kansas.

He worked part-time for various farmers, Cook Appliance Service, and Eureka Greenhouse, and spent his leisure time fishing and camping. He enjoyed raising a garden, working on antique clocks, woodworking and eating out with friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Ona Mae Haney; brothers Howard Eugene Haney, Clarence Lee Haney, and Delbert Dale Haney; sisters Helen M. (Haney) Teegardin and Betty Jean (Haney) Duncan; brother-in-laws, Raymond Teegardin and Homer Duncan;sister-in-laws, Margaret (Broddle) Haney and Francis (Showalter) Haney Massey; ex-wife, Imogene (Haney) McIlvain; and son, Gale Dean Haney.

Carl is survived by his wife, Margaret Helen Haney of Eureka; and children: Lee Haney and wife Vicki of San Diego California; Arlene Haney-DeWitt of Madison, Kansas; Darlene (Haney) Haas and husband Mike of Madison, Kansas; Carlene Diane (Haney), Barb and husband Bill of Bazine, Ks; Coleen Kay (Haney) Buettner of Eureka, Kansas; Patricia Jean Harding-Haney of Eureka, Kansas; Joyce Ann (Haney/Cort) Sallee and husband Jim of Oak Grove, Missouri; and Kathryn (Haney) Brown of Eureka, Kansas; and daughter-in-law LaVon (Cassell) Haney of Burlington, Kansas; 23 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.

He was loved and will be missed by his huge family and friends.

Viewing was held Sunday, August 9, from 5 - 7 P.M. and a memorial service, Monday, August 10, at 10:00 A.M. at Koup Family Funeral Home in Eureka.
