Carl Edwin “Dutch” Betsher, Jr. died on Friday, January 26, 2007, at Greenwood County Hospital, in Eureka, at the age of 83.
He was born on February 7, 1923, in Eureka, the son of Carl Edwin, Sr. and Clara Jane (Clogston) Betsher. He was raised in Eureka, and graduated from Eureka High School with the class of 1941. After his schooling, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving his country with honor and dignity in World War II. He served on the U.S.S. Yorktown for 30 months, an achievement he was proud of all his life.
After his discharge, Carl returned to Eureka. On October 19, 1947, he was united in marriage to Martha Davis in Eureka, where they made their home. In Eureka, he co-owned and operated Betsher Bros. Dry Cleaners, and worked for the Kansas State Department of Revenue.
Carl was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #2712, a member of the Midian Shrine, a 50 year member of Order of the Eastern Star Queen Bess Chapter #52, and the Free and Accepted Masons Lodge #106.
He is survived by his wife, Martha of the home; two sons, Ronald Betsher of Misawa Air Force Base, Japan; and Steven Betsher of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; one daughter, Carla Ruelberg of Olathe; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Charles Allen Betsher.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, January 29, 2007 at Koup Family Funeral Home, Eureka, with Reverend Diana Hill of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
