Calvin L. Massey, of rural Eureka, died at the Greenwood County Hospital on September 13, 2013, at the age of 77.

He was born on the family farm in Greenwood County on July 11, 1936, the son of Howard B. and Ellen I. (Bane) Massey. Calvin was raised in and around the Eureka area. He attended Eureka schools, and graduated from Eureka High School with the class of 1955. On December 24, 1955, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Burtin in Eureka. They made their home in rural Eureka where Calvin farmed most of his life. He also worked for the Greenwood County Road and Bridge Department for thirteen years, retiring from there in 1996.

Calvin was a member of the Kansas National Guard in his early years. He was also an avid fisherman and card player.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marilyn, of the home, three sons, Greg and wife Janice, Gareth, and Gary Massey all of Eureka, four grandchildren, Mandy Gibson, Colt Massey, Brandon Massey, and Brooke Massey, four great-grandchildren, Mason Gibson, Shelby Welsh, Erika Massey, and Toni Massey. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at Koup Family Funeral Home with Mr. Jayme Koup officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Greenwood County Hospital and may be sent in care of the funeral home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, Kansas 67045 which was in charge of service arrangements.
