Calvin L. Hughes was born in Eureka, Kansas on November 7, 1925 to Lloyd Floyd and Lora Louise Hughes. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Emma Jean Barb Hughes of Bella Vista, Arkansas; three sons and their wives: Steve and Sherry Hughes of Bella Vista, Arkansas; Larry and Barbara Hughes of Fresno, California; Jim and Margie Hughes of Kirksville, Missouri; and five grandchildren, Kevin, Scott and wife, Molly, Kara, Kristin, and Erin, and several nieces and nephews.

Calvin lived on a farm in Greenwood County, Kansas for 32 years. He later, served as Butler County Assessor and was a Nationally Designated Appraiser, for several Fortune 500 companies. Calvin and Emma Jean also founded, Hughes Company Realtors in Mound City, Kansas.

Calvin was member of the Masonic Lodge and of the Midian Temple in Wichita, Kansas for over 50 years. He was also a member of the First Christian Church.

To Calvin, no one was a stranger. Calvin’s charisma and genuine interest in all he met were legendary, but his love for his family was always most important. Among his many interests, Calvin enjoyed playing cards, hunting, fishing, and playing golf with his family and friends.

Throughout their 67 years together, Calvin and Emma Jean lived in Eureka, Kansas, El Dorado, Kansas, Joplin Missouri., Olathe, Kansas, Mound City, Kansas, and Bella Vista, Arkansas.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at Greenwood Cemetery with Pastor Mark Demas of the Hamilton United Methodist Church officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Circle of Life Hospice. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
