Calvin Eugene Bewley, of Eureka, died at the Greenwood County Hospital on Saturday, February 24, 2007, at the age of 83.
He was born on October 13, 1923, in Fredonia, Kansas, the son of Maurice and Myrle (Nelson) Bewley. Calvin was raised in Fall River, Kansas and attended school there, graduating from Fall River High School with the class of 1941. He then attended Wichita Business College. After his schooling, he entered the United States Navy and served his country with honor and dignity during World War II as a Naval Air Gunner in the Pacific. Upon his discharge in March 1946, Calvin returned to Fall River where he was a farmer and rancher.
On October 26, 1947, he was united in marriage to Peggy Oelhers at Fredonia, Kansas, in the Lutheran Church. They made their home on a ranch north of Eureka for the last 56 years.
Calvin was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka, the Kansas Farm Bureau, and the Greenwood County Cattlemen’s Association. He retired from the United States Postal Service in 1984.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy; one daughter, PJ Yochum of Newtown, Connecticut; one son, Clint Bewley of Eureka, Kansas; three grandchildren; Casey Bewley of Dallas, Texas, and Henry and Harrison Yochum of Newtown, Connecticut. Calvin was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Maurice Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., on Wednesday, February 28, 2007, at Koup Family Funeral Home with Reverend Diana Hill of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Highland Cemetery.
