Byra Jean Juaire, of Eureka, died on Monday, October 11, 2004, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, at the age of 55.
She was born on September 29, 1949, in Wichita, the daughter of Albert Byron and Mildred (Nearhood) Glenn. She was raised in the Wichita area until 1953 when the family moved to Severy. Byra attended and graduated from Severy High School and later attended Vernon’s Beauty School. After earning her cosmetology degree, she first worked in Wichita for two years, then Eureka for thirty-three years.
On September 1, 1970, Byra was united in marriage to Jerry Juaire in Howard, Kansas. Jerry preceded her in death on August 16, 2000. The last eight years she spent as the owner and operator of the Hair Stop, in Eureka.
She was a member of the Severy Baptist Church.
Byra is survived by her mother, Mildred Glenn of Eureka; three daughters, Laurie Miller and son-in-law Nick of Severy; Jenny Lanning of Eureka; Amy and son-in-law Mike Johnson of Reece; three grandsons, Joseph, Anthony, and Derrick Johnson, and two granddaughters, Denim Lanning, and Stormy Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her father, husband, and brother, Terry Nearhood.
The family will greet friends and visitors from 5 – 7 P.M., Friday, October 15, 2004, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, October 16, 2004, at Koup Family Funeral Home, Eureka, with Pastor Alan Hunter of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in South Lawn Cemetery, Severy.
