Boyd H. Stewart was born on October 16, 1915, on a farm near Brookville, Kansas, to Lloyd Allen Stewart and Sarah Ann (McGee).

The family moved from Saline County, Kansas to a ranch in the mountains of Colorado in 1920, approximately 14 miles from Oak Creek where the drinking water was dipped out of the creek, ice cold in August. The family lived there until 1924, when they returned to Saline County. In 1925, the family moved to Jefferson County where the family lived on a large farm. Boyd spent many days walking behind a team of horses working the land for crops, milking cows, and many other farm jobs, many times daylight to dark. Through the depression the family cut down trees to keep the cattle fed. Boyd attended and graduated from Ozawkie Rural High School in 1933.

After attending Kansas State University, he was employed at Stearman Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas, as a foreman in Quality Control until 1962. Boyd farmed and raised livestock in Rose Hill, Kansas, while employed at Boeing. In 1947, Boyd married B. Maxine Sherffius in Newton, Kansas. Boyd and Maxine have two children, Patricia Anne, and Rex Alan.

Boyd served in WWII in the “Red Arrow” division of the Army stationed in the Philippines. He was wounded by a mortar shell and spent many days in the hospital. Boyd returned home at wars end and received the Purple Heart.

Stearman Aircraft later become Boeing Aircraft and upon Boyd leaving Boeing, the family moved to a 1000-acre ranch northwest of Severy, Kansas, and later purchased another 250 acres where they raised as many as 140 Angus cattle. Boyd was a member of the American and Kansas Angus Association and was active in forming the Otter Creek Watershed project. He was also a member of the Greenwood County Cattlemen’s Association, and the Soil Conservation District and received the Soil Conservation award.
