Bobby “Jack” Lewis
Jack Lewis, of Eureka, died on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at the Eureka Nursing Center, at the age of 88.
He was born in Eureka on September 26, 1925, the son of Minnie Mae (Souders) and William Brook Lewis. He attended Eureka schools before enlisting in the United States Army Air Corp. Jack served his country with pride and dignity during World War II. On January 19, 1949, Jack was united in marriage to Bessie Smith in Iola, Kansas. After his discharge, he worked for Hayes Brothers Welders in the Eureka/Madison area until the early 1960’s. He and Bessie then moved to El Dorado where Jack worked for Kaneb Pipeline. He retired in 1975, and the family moved back to Eureka.
Jack was a member of VFW post #2712 of Eureka, a 50-year member of Madison Masonic Lodge #196, and a 40-year member of the Topeka Scottish Rite of Free Masonry.
Jack is survived by his wife, Bessie, of the home, son, James Lewis of Seattle, Washington, daughter, Jerri Barton of Tulsa, Oklahoma, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Donald Lewis, his parents, seven brothers, and seven sisters.
Funeral services will be held at Koup Family Funeral Home on Friday, April 18, 2014, at 2:00 P.M., with Mr. Jayme Koup officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to VFW Post #2712 of Eureka. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
