Billie E. Greenwood
Billie Esley Greenwood of Eureka, died on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at the Eureka Nursing Center, in Eureka, at the age of 89.
He was born on February 24, 1925, in Fall River, the son of William R. and Melissa H. (Wormington) Greenwood. He attended Fall River schools. At the onset of World War II, Billie served in the United States Army in Germany, reaching the rank of Corporal. After his discharge, he worked at the Eureka Mill and Elevator, Dow Chemical Plant. In later years, he worked part time for USD 389, and the Bluestem Medical Clinic.
On December 24, 1948, Billie was united in marriage to Martha Jean Brenton. They made their home in Eureka. To this union three daughters were born.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka.
He is survived by his wife, Martha of the home; three daughters, Linda and husband, Mike McClintick of Eureka; Jane and husband, Mike O’Connor of Emporia; and Susan and husband, Joe Sommer of Fredonia; ten grandchildren: Billy O’Connor, Amy Soetaert, Scott McClintick, Chad McClintick, Patrick O’Connor, Matthew McClintick, Sara Sommer, Anna O’Connor, Erin Sommer, and Kyle Sommer; five great-grandchildren: Lucas Soetaert, Colin Soetaert, William McClintick, Duncan McClintick, and Reagan Soetaert; one sister, Wanda Girard of Conway Springs, KS; and one brother, Lonnie Lorance of Kansas City, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Fred Greenwood.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 21, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Eureka, with Reverend Kenneth Baker officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation hours are set from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Friday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church or to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2712 (to support the Avenue of Flags). Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
