Betty Lea (Soule) Uhl died Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at Eureka Nursing Center in Eureka, at the age of 95.
Betty was born October 7, 1924, in Rosalia, Kansas, the daughter of Freeman Wilber and Sarah Emma (Cronk) Soule. She was raised in Eureka and attended local schools, graduating from Eureka High School with the class of 1942. Following graduation, Betty went to work at Boeing in Wichita. In 1947, Betty was united in marriage to James Edgar Flomerfelt, in Sherman Texas. They made their home in Eureka. This marriage was blessed with three daughters. The marriage later ended in divorce. Betty worked as a nurses aide at Greenwood County Hospital, and for many years for Dr. John Hollenbeck. She also worked more than 25 years at Freeman’s G. E. Store.
In June of 1972, Betty was united in marriage to Max Eugene Uhl. They made their home near Hamilton. Betty worked at the Madison Manor Nursing Home in Madison, and later at Eureka Nursing Center, retiring at the age of 80. Max preceded her in death on May 21, 2007.
She attended the Hamilton Community Fellowship Church.
Betty is survived by her daughters: Joyce Lorance of Treasure Island, FL, and Carol and husband, Ron Plaisted, of Garnett; three grandchildren: Jeffrey Lorance of Austin, TX, Robert Lorance of Puerto Penasco, Mexico, and Natalie Finneran of Treasure Island, FL; three great-grandchildren: Morgan and Shelby Lorance of Austin, TX, and Matteo Lorance of Puerto Penasco, Mexico; three brothers: Merle Soule of Mt. Vernon, IL, Gilbert Soule of Madison, and Richard Soule of Eureka; and five sisters: Susan Thole of Stafford, Joan Talkington of Hamilton, and Thedda Olson, Sharron Urton and Karen Nordmeyer, all of Eureka.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Max; infant daughter, Sharlyn Kay Flomerfelt; 6 sisters: Bertha Erickson, Eleanor Jacoby, Phyllis Enos, Carol Soule, Sandra Soule, and Florence Sellers; and one brother, Bill Soule.
Funeral services are set for 10:30 A.M., Friday, March 13, at Koup Family Funeral Home in Eureka. Interment will follow at Economy Cemetery, El Dorado.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to Hamilton Community Fellowship. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O.
