Betty Handley of Wichita, formerly of Eureka, died on October 24, 2008 at her residence at the age of 83.
She was born on July 30, 1925 in Eureka, Kansas the daughter of Joel “Shorty” and Marion “Slim” (Woolridge) Martin. She was raised and attended school in the Greenwood County Hills area. After her schooling she married Dwight Handley Sr. and moved to Battle Creek, Michigan when he joined the Army. She worked at a V.A. Hospital in Battle Creek as an elevator operator. After Dwight came back from the war they moved to Emporia and later to Hutchinson. The family then moved to Wichita which they made their home. Betty last went to work for Garvey Grain Warehouse as an inventory specialist before retiring in 1989.
She is survived her daughter, Ann Wright and husband David of Lexington, Oklahoma; two sons, Dwight “Pete” Handley Jr. and wife Mary of Belle Plain, Kansas and Darrell Handley and wife Diane of Wichita, Kansas; thirteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dwight Handley Sr., her daughter Karen Wiggins and sister, Joann Parish.
Private graveside family services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday, October 27, 2008 at Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka with Mr. Jayme Koup officiating.
