Betty Lou Castle, of Eureka, died on Sunday, April 15, 2007, at Gran Villas in Eureka at the age of 85.
She was born on March 10, 1922, in Quincy, Kansas, the daughter of Fred and Gladys (Carson) Williams. She was raised in Hamilton and graduated from Hamilton High School with the class of 1940. During World War II Betty joined the Civil Service and worked with the Signal Corp, first in Philadelphia, then Washington, D.C., and finally in the Territory of Hawaii.
On December 18, 1948, Betty was united in marriage to William J. Castle Sr. in the Territory of Hawaii. They made their home there until 1951, when they moved to Oakland, California where Betty worked for the Department of the Army Air force as a cargo scheduler. William preceded her in death on February 14, 1968. Betty retired from the Civil Service in 1979, after 33 years of service. In 1993, she moved to Eureka to be closer to family.
Betty was very involved with ceramics, loved to make different kinds of fudge at Christmas time, and enjoyed family gatherings.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Janell Castle of Eureka, one grandson, Ron Castle of Arkansas City, and one brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Jo Williams of Eureka. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, and two sisters.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at Koup Family Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., on Thursday, April 19, 2007, at Koup Family Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Janesville Cemetery.
Memorials have been established in her name to the Greenwood County Hospice and Gran Villas. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
