Bernadine Aletha Olson, of Wichita, died on Thursday, June 19, 2003, at the Wichita Presbyterian Manor in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 89.
She was born on November 30, 1913, in Greenwood County, Kansas, the daughter of Albert and Tammy (Bair) Stuber. She was raised in the Climax area and attended Climax schools and graduated from Climax High School with the class of 1929. After going to Lawrence for normal training, she began teaching in the Lawrence area and later in the Eureka area.
On December 10, 1934, Bernadine was united in marriage to Richard Olson in Lawrence, Kansas. They made their home in Eureka until 1954, when the family moved to El Dorado. They moved to Newton in 1961 and to Wichita in 1968.
Bernadine worked as an LPN at St. Francis Medical Center for twelve years before retiring in 1979. Throughout the rest of her life, she was a homemaker. She attended the Bethany United Methodist Church of Wichita.
She is survived by a son, Richard L. Olson of Bossier City, Louisiana; three daughters, Marilyn Billingsley of Wichita, Sharon Buchanan of Denver, Colorado, and Karen Rohrer also of Wichita; one brother, Dale Stuber of Severy; three sisters, Ada Day of Wichita, Mary Martha Brown of Eureka, Vera Nichols of Overland Park; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, one sister, and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, June 23, 2003, at Koup Family Funeral Home with Pastor Clyde Billingsley, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Upper Fall River Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in her name with the Wichita Presbyterian Manor Employees Fund. Contributions may be sent in care of the Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, Kansas which was in charge of service arrangements.
