Bernadine Bradford
Bernadine Bradford of Eureka passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka at the age of 90.
She was born on February 20, 1924, in Greenwood County, the daughter of Raymond and Gwendolyn (Pugh) Lacy. She was raised in Eureka and Madison and graduated from Madison High School. On January 27, 1942, Bernadine was united in marriage to Ralph Birkett Bradford in Cottonwood Falls. She worked at the courthouse in Eureka until RalpH returned from serving in WWII. They eventually made their home in Madison, and later moved back to Eureka.
Bernadine was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Mother’s Club, Rebekah’s Lodge, and PTA. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. Bernadine will always be remembered for her glowing smile, wit, friendly outgoing personality, and loving devotion to her family and friends. The family would like to thank the staff at Vintage Park and the medical team at Greenwood County Hospital for their attentive and considerate care of Bernadine during her final golden years.
She is survived by her son, Ron Bradford and his wife, Barbara, of Mission Viejo, California; three grandchildren, Audrey Fils, John Bradford, and Allison Leyland; four great-grandchildren, Sydney, Jacob, and Mason Fils, and Benton Bradford, all living in California; and sister, Pat Krumme of Emporia. She also is survived by sister-in-law Joan Buckle, and brother-in law Ed Buckle of Eureka who generously gave invaluable support and care to Bernadine. Additionally, she is survived by three nieces, Cathy McCarthy, Debra Berry, and Cyndi Alford, and two nephews, Mike Storrer and David Buckle. Bernadine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter, Linda Kay Bradford.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, May 30, 2014, at Koup Family Funeral Home in Eureka, with Reverend Kenneth Baker of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Cremation has been effected. A private family inurnment will follow the service.
