Barbara L. Bailey, of Eureka, died Friday, January 12, 2007, at the Greenwood County Hospital, in Eureka, at the age of 86.
She was born on October 12, 1920, in Severy, the daughter of Harold Ray and Jessie Irene (Laughlin) Lawman. She was raised in Severy, and graduated from local schools, before attending the School of Cosmetology in Emporia. After she was licensed she began operating a beauty shop in Severy.
On September 20, 1941, she was united in marriage to Harry Edward Bailey in Independence. They made their home in Severy. Harry left Severy to serve in the Army during World War II. Harry returned in 1946, and they settled in Eureka. Barbara operated two beauty shops in Eureka, until her retirement in 1970. Harry preceded her in death on July 6, 2004.
She is survived by two sons, Tony Bailey of Farmington, New Mexico; and Steve Bailey of Eureka; two daughters, Diane Grundy of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Jill Bailey of Eureka; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and one brother, Rex Lawman of Little Rock, Arkansas.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, January 18, 2007, at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka, with Pastor Alan Hunter of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 5:00 P.M., to 7:00 P.M., on Wednesday.
