Arthur Edward McDonald of rural Eureka, died on Sunday, August 6, 2023, in his home at the age of 81.
He was born on January 26, 1942, in Eureka, the son of Edward Kendall and Hazel Bernice (Guisinger) McDonald. Art was raised in Eureka and graduated from Tonovay High School. He then went to work for Southwestern Bell, which later became AT&T.
On April 23, 1960, Art was united in marriage to Carolyn Sue Boone of Neal. To this union, two children were born. The family made their first home in Winfield, however, they resided all over the state of Kansas throughout Art’s career as a Southwestern Bell manager. In 1994, Art and Sue retired in Eureka where they began raising cattle and spending time with their children and grandchildren.
Art had a passion for music, technology, and science, which he shared with many of his grandchildren. The love and devotion he had for his faith and family was evident. Art was also a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Art is survived by his wife, Sue of the home; sons, Michael Edward and wife, Melita McDonald of Grove, Oklahoma; and Craig Alan and wife, Lisa McDonald of Eureka; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Charles R. McDonald of Arkansas City. He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Mat McDonald and Kayla McDonald; and two siblings, Danny Lee McDonald and Shelia Ann Gibson.
Mass services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 26, 2023, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Eureka with Fr. Nic Jurgensmeyer officiating. Cremation has been effected.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Eureka or to the American Cancer Society.
