Arleta Florence Carter, of Eureka, died on December 1, 2003, at the Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, Kansas, at the age of 76.

She was born on November 3, 1927, in Utopia, Kansas, the daughter of Charles F. and Florence (Cook) Denner. She was raised in rural Eureka and graduated from Tonovay school in 1945. After finishing the Kansas Teacher’s College, she taught in Utopia and Climax.

On July 25, 1948, Arleta was united in marriage to Park W. Carter in Eureka. After their marriage, she was a co-owner of Carter Jewelry and then later retired in 1987.

She was a member of the Christian-Congregational Church and sang in the church choir for over 50 years. She was also a member of many clubs and organizations which include the Boy and Girl scouts, Mother’s Study Club, Charter member of Sweet Adelines, CCWF, Greenwood County Historical Society, and was also the PTA president.

She is survived by her husband, Park, of the home; two daughters, Rosanne Carter and her husband Tom Elliott of Wichita, Kansas, and Jeanette Carter of Eureka, Kansas; one brother, David Denner, of Hartsville, South Carolina; three sisters, Rilda Cook of Pueblo, Colorado, Charlene Town of Eureka, Kansas, and Julie Seward of Blue Springs, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Warner Carter, and one sister.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, December 4, 2003, at the Christian-Congregational Church with Pastor Bill Coburn and Reverend Dr. Gilbert Daniel officiating. Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in her name with the Christian-Congregational Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, Kansas, which was in charge of service arrangements.
